HR Academy Course #4: Becoming Fluent in Finance and Accounting
In the past, HR has often had limited opportunities for representation on executive management teams. Happily, many experts predict that change is on the horizon and in the near future senior HR professionals like yourself will begin to take their place at the executive table. Of course, taking the seat is the first step. Keeping the seat will require you to consistently add value to the executive team and the company. You can start by becoming fluent in finance. It has often been said that finance is the language of business. Ultimately, your ability to analyze and interpret financial statements, understand their interrelationship and integrate that understanding with your offering of HR expertise and leadership will be integral to your ability to be a successful executive.
This course will describe the key actions you need to take to become fluent in finance, gain an understanding of financial statements, deploy financial analysis techniques in your HR analysis activities, ask the right questions of finance teammates and communicate your ideas and conclusions to the other members of the executive team.
